OverView: Banner Health seeks a Medical Physicist for its Phoenix, Arizona location to join two other physicists and three dosimetrists to provide Radiation Therapy physics support to a growing state-of-the-art Radiation Oncology department Environment: Equipment includes Novalis TX, Tomotherapy Hi-Art, Varian 21 EX and Nucletron microselectron HDR, Wellhoffer beam scanning equipment, Sun Nuclear MapCheck2, TomoDose and Profiler. Software and planning systems include ADAC Pinnacle, Varian Eclipse, Tomotherapy TomoPlanning, Brainlab iPlan, Nucletron Plato and Oncentra, Varian Variseed, RadCalc and IMPAC Mosaiq. Procedures include Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Radiotherapy (SRS/SRT/SBRT), Intensity Modulated and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IMRT/IGRT with RapidArc), total body irradiation (TBI), total skin electrons, Brachytherapy (LDR and HDR) and Y-90 labeled microsphere liver therapy (Therasphere and Sirsphere).
Responsibilities: 1. Verifies proper operation and safety of all machines and sources producing radiation, including acceptance testing, commissioning, and routine calibration checks consistent with established guidelines and protocols.2. Performs or checks dose calculations (manual or computer generated) to insure accurate dose delivery. Assists in or performs computer treatment planning as needed.3. Provides support and assistance in delivery of all radiation therapy treatments, including advanced specialized therapies such as brachytherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery/radiotherapy and total body irradiation.4. Performs measurements or other evaluations as necessary to insure accurate dose delivery for treatments involving image guided and intensity modulated radiation therapy, electron cutouts, partial transmission blocks, etc.5. Participates in regular quality assurance reviews, including weekly chart checks, equipment operation/maintenance record reviews, chart rounds, etc. Ensures proper documentation is recorded and maintained.6. Ensures all radiation safety standards and regulatory requirements are met.7. Assists in the evaluation and implementation of new therapies and protocols. Maintains ongoing education in new and developing therapies and protocols for this purpose.8. Assists in teaching medical physics, dosimetry and radiation safety procedures to staff and radiation therapy students.
Qualifications: Must have Masters or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or in Physical Science with clinical experience in medical physics, certification in therapeutic radiological physics by the American Board of Radiology. Must possess knowledge of computer programming, advanced treatment planning, and quality control procedures. Familiar with laws and regulation governing the use of radiation in medicine. Must have effective interpersonal communication ability, write legibly, must be able to work both independently and with a team.
