Job Description:
 

Administers ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instruction of the Radiation Oncologist. Reports to Chief Radiation Therapist as well as senior level staff.
1. Delivers therapeutic radiation in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription, including checking the prescription for mathematical or technical errors.
2. Interprets beam films to determine accuracy and follows through having films checked and approved by a Radiation Oncologist.
3. Maintains records of daily treatment and other documentation required.
4. Prepares room and equipment for patient in regards to immobilization devices, field parameters and beam shaping devices.
5. Maintains visual and audible communication with patient during treatment.
6. Reports unusual reactions and events to the radiation therapy nurse, oncologist, chief therapist or physicist.
7. Reports operation of equipment to chief technologist and/or medical physicist.
8. Recognizes signs and symptoms of developing complications during treatment and knows when to withhold treatment until the patient is seen by the Radiation Oncologist.
9. Is aware of the operation and warm-up time of all treatment equipment.
10. Detects unsatisfactory setup and/or errors and reports them to the Radiation Oncologist and/or chief therapist.
11. Confers with colleagues about any problems, reports any incidents or injuries and completes appropriate incident paperwork.
12. Performs simulation and basic dosimetry calculations.

Job Qualifications:
 

Minimum Required Education Certificate
Preferred Education Associate Minimum Required Experience 2-3 years
Preferred Experience 3-4 years
