Job Description:
 

Main Function:

Administers radiation therapy treatments under minimum supervision according to the Radiation Oncologist's prescription
Verify the Radiation Oncologists prescription and to determine any mathematical or technical errors
Keeps accurate daily records of treatment administered
Teaches radiation therapist students technical procedures and evaluates students at end of clinical rotations
Assists in the supervision of the staff radiation therapists and block cutters
Act as chief Radiation therapist when assigned
Performs safety/Q checks on treatment machines and records data daily
Verifies/localizes treatment area with a radiologic film, develops and submits films to appropriate staff for further action
Interprets beam films to determine accuracy and follows through having films checked and approved by the radiation therapist
Orient and train new employees
Keep patients in waiting room informed of any delays or excessive wait in treatment
Understands all procedures and practices before proceeding with patient set-up
Contacts appropriate staff if not comfortable or unsure of proper procedure
Detects treatment unit malfunctions and knows when safety limits of malfunctions have been reached. Reports malfunctions to Chief Therapist and Physicist
Assists with treatment planning procedures, i.e., contours and measurement

Job Qualifications:
 

Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree
5 years experiences as a Radiation therapist in a hospital setting
Strong communication, organizational and patient care skills
